Let's Find Here, to Get There.

You don't hire me for motivation. You hire me for movement. Strategic methodologist and executive advisor for leaders operating under pressure, complexity, moving targets, and high expectations.Read More

I work with leaders who live in the real world. Pressure. Complexity. Moving targets. Environments where clarity is oxygen and performance is non-negotiable.

This isn't coaching in the traditional sense. It's partnership at the point of pressure. I challenge assumptions, bring frameworks built from experience, and stay in the room until strategy becomes action.

My methodology is simple to say and hard to do. Discovery, Design, Development. We define where you are. Here. We chart where you're going. There. Then we close the gap, fast.

One belief runs through all of it. Complexity is fine. It stretches us. Complicated is fatal. It stalls us. My job is to help you hold the first and kill the second.

Twenty years. More than 10,000 hours advising senior leaders across engineering, healthcare, finance, energy, sports, and major consumer brands. Selected for Marshall Goldsmith's 100 Coaches from over 18,000 applicants. Currently completing a PhD in Organization and Management.

But credentials don't move you. Partnership does.

Here's what that looks like from the people who've done the work:

As President of a multi-billion-dollar business with thousands of employees, I face high expectations and complex decisions daily. I don't let many into that circle, but Dean Miles earned his place. He helped me lead more decisively, think more clearly, and communicate with purpose - ideal for senior executives focused on continuous improvement.
Joe St. Julian · President, Nuclear at AtkinsRealis
Dean truly meets his clients where they are. One of the most impactful exercises Dean did with my team was an alignment exercise. To put it mildly, we were not aligned, but Dean worked with the team and me to take concrete steps to improve our cohesiveness and set up structures to track our progress. Even though there were lots of tough conversations, Dean ensured we laughed out loud a lot, which meant I always looked forward to our meetings.
Feargal Moorhead · Chief People Officer, Zoox
What I loved most about working with Dean was the fact that he listened to where I was coming from and brought thinking to our conversations that fit that. He reminded me to be a better version of me, not a different person. Dean helped me triage feedback to decide which comments merited action and which didn't. I hope to work with Dean again in the future.

Melanie Miles and I just celebrated 35 years of marriage. I coach leaders for a living. I talk about direction, judgment, and follow-through. Nobody has taught me more about any of those than the woman in this picture. Thirty-five years is not one decision. It is thousands of small ones, made again on the ordinary days when no one is watching. She has said yes to more adventures than I had any right to ask for. Four kids. A dozen addresses. A business built from nothing. And now a granddaughter who has both of us wrapped around her finger. Here is what I have learned: the people who go the distance with you are not the ones who agree with everything. They are the ones who tell you the truth and stay. Melanie has done both for 35 years. Grateful beyond words. Direction. Not just motion.Anastasia Koroleva sold her company for nine figures. All cash. No earnout. The exit every founder dreams about. Then, she told Bloomberg Businessweek this week: "Everything was very different from what we expected, and that was shocking for me." Sixteen years later she hosts a podcast called Exit Paradox and has studied about 1,200 people who no longer need to work. Her estimate of where they land a decade in: 15 percent in a bad place. 70 percent comfortable but empty. 15 percent thriving. Everyone reads the first line. I keep reading the second. Seventy percent. Not in crisis. Not in therapy. Wealthy, capable, and quietly aware that the thing they organized their whole life around is gone and nothing has taken its place. The article calls it sudden wealth syndrome. I think that name gets the diagnosis backwards. The money is not the problem. The problem is that these are the most driven people alive, and the engine that got them there does not have an off switch. Thinking was never the issue. Believing was never the issue. Doing was the whole game, and now there is nothing to do it toward. That is not a mindset gap. It is a conation gap. The striving faculty outlived its target. I have sat with leaders in this exact seat. The founder the year before the sale. The CEO handing the chair to someone else. The president stepping out after 26 years. The executive who sold once and started building again because building was the only thing that felt like being alive. None of them asked me how to feel about what they had done. Every one of them asked some version of: what am I for now? The peer networks and retreats the article profiles are real and useful. They give people a room. But a room full of people asking the same question is not the same as an answer. Getting from the 70 to the 15 is work. Specific, structured, one-on-one work. Direction. Not just motion.Which clock mattered Saturday. Michigan trails Western Michigan 12-7. Last play. Hail Mary, out of the end zone. The clock reads 0:00. Western Michigan starts celebrating. Then the replay center puts one second back. Turns out there were two clocks. The one on the scoreboard, the one on the broadcast, the one every player and coach and fan was watching. And a second one, in a replay center, that nobody in the building knew existed. The second clock won. Michigan got another play. 13-12. Coaches on both sides said afterward they had no idea there was a separate official clock. That is the part I cannot let go of. Not the call. The clock. Everyone in the stadium was playing to a number that turned out not to count. Every organization has two clocks. The one people can see, and the one decisions are actually made on. Most of the time they agree, so nobody notices. Then one Saturday they don't. Your people are working off the scoreboard they can see. If you're working off a different one, they deserve to know before it decides something that matters to them. Which clock are your people watching? Direction. Not just motion.
